I asked my husband drag it into the basement; sanded the shiny varnish off; sealed the wood with primer; spray painted it black (note: regardless of how clever your ventilation plan is, do not spray paint in your basement! yuck!); added a little cushion to the seat with some batting; and covered the seat with some fancy, yet very inexpensive fabric I bought on fabric.com.
I'm pretty pleased with myself here. I love this little telephone seat, but I definitely plan to move my spray painting activities outside!! Check out the pics and let me know what you think.

I think you have found your new job, refurbishing furniture - these look great.

I was going to say the same thing as Christian. Nice work.
I think it looks awesome, I love the OKGO vintage thing going on. Maybe ou have a fine career refurbishing, and then making a meelion dollars on ebay?

Sweet!

Libby... nice stuff! Don't discount these comments about a new career doing this. It may be a sideline biz for awhile, but you could easily go around picking odds and ends at flea markets, garage sales, estate sales, etc. and refinishing them and putting them on ebay and the like.
Here's a couple awesome books I have to recommend to you in your current in-between-jobs situation: Both by Dan Miller, "No More Mondays" and "40 Days to the Work you Love".
Hi!
I happened to get here because I clicked 'next blog' after mine. Then I got lost in your projects and enthusiasm. Nice to meet you, neighbour.

PS. I love the telephone table - great fabric. Very impressive!
I like how the fabric works with the woodwork shape.
Also, how'd you feel about the spray paint? Is that the best option, or do you suggest hand painting?
